I'm going to take out the 74GB from the old computer and add it to the new one in a RAID-0 configure. Then I got this 400GB WD drive I pulled from a computer I serviced. The owner bought a new drive, so I checked the warranty on the drive and it was still good. Sending it out today and when it comes back, its going in as a storage drive. Later on, I'll buy another, throw it into a RAID-1 and I'll never worry about my data again. Its exciting times, I've waited a long time for this.

Your old PC wasn't bad. Probably faster than mine (stock Opteron 165.. I don't know how to overclock this damn thing).

Nice PC though. I'm guessing you play a lot of games still? I have a PS3 and Wii now, but I can't hold my attention to games anymore :\

Did your video card come with a free copy of Quake Wars too?

Are you going with a 64 Bit OS or going to live with 3.3 GB of ram reported in Windows?

What's it like to be able to buy a new computer?

Hell, what's it like to have a job that pays enough to allow you to buy a new computer?

Can I have some money?

Acid: The old PC is still kicking, however since my parents actually use the computer a lot now and I find myself with little free time, I'd live to have a computer available for whenever I want to use the damn thing. Do I get to play games a lot still? No. However, when I do get a chance I want to be able to play the games I want to play. Got an Xbox 360 in the house that someone gave me with 2 games, Madden and GoW.

Caco: I just got the processor in, I haven't checked what stepping I got yet. I'll let you know when I take it out of the package. I missed the deal for the free copy of Quake Wars (really don't care, I played the demo and the game officially sucks, I was very dissapointed. The whole idea behind the game was a dream and they just failed miserably). I am definetely going with Vista x64. I said to myself years ago, the next system I build will be a 64-bit system, regardless as to where the industry currently is in supporting it.

AcidWarp: It's pretty damn awesome. Especially since for the past two years, I dug myself out of a 15k hole I put myself into with having fun with a credit card. Don't you love how you're close to maxing the card and they raise the limit by a thousand, digging yourself deeper? Yeah, so I lived with two years of completely misery and no money or nothing. Scrapping every bit of the way. This is the first thing I bought myself that I'll actually enjoy (instead of giving money to family members for weddings or paying to fix the car, etc...) I've suffer, I've risen, and now I'll enjoy.

And, as for giving you money... Dude, did you just see how much I spent.

All joking aside, keep your head up AW, it eventually does get better.

It's because I'm in school. I'm a poor student.

Maybe this summer.

An update on the system:

The Abit IP35 mobo has given me a hell of a time. I'm waiting on a replacement Asus P5E-K. After all the research I've done on this board to treat failures with the RAID-0 and install any OS, and the annoying Double Post issues I'm staying far away from Abit products from now on. Its so funny how I swore on their shit for so many years, and just one bad experience just denies everything. That company really went to shit.

So I'm expecting to get that new motherboard today (as long as there's someone home to receive the package, if not I'll have to hunt it down and pick it up). Hopefully, this will end the week of hell and begin the fun.

I'm not having issues with my board which is the ABIT IP35 Pro. Not sure about your version but the IP35 Pro got tons of rave reviews which is one reason I went with it. I researched boards for a month and almost went with a DFI Lanparty board but settled on the IP35 Pro.

What really sucks is the 8800GT 512MB card (which is cheaper and faster) came out right after I bought my 8800GTS 320 MB card.

I hate the way they named them.

8800GTS fast
8800GT faster
8800GTX fastest

Yeah Cac, I didn't get the Pro version. I got the Plain old IP35. That's probably where I went wrong. I didn't need eSata or a dual-lan. Or the extra x16 slots (I hate those damn slots. I know its really just meant to fit any card x8 or lower, but you are using either an x1 card or and x16 card. I wish people would get the hell off of PCI already. That way we can start seeing sound cards with x4 connectors, or RAID controller's with x8).

But anyways, I just checked my Newegg status and the motherboard is waiting at my doorstep. Not sure if I'm going to continue the fun tonight before I go out, or tomorrow when I have the whole day. I might start tonight that way tomorrow is for all the fun.

Yeah, they gotta come up with a better naming convention. Its too confusing. I liked it better back in the GeForce 4 days. If you had an MX, it was a value card. If you had a Ti, you meant business.

So the system is up and running. Now tackling my other problem. The linksys wireless card I bought does not have a 64-bit Vista drive. However, there's a workaround that I'm going to try in a bit. I'm getting excited again, I may finally be done building this thing.

BTW Cac, I just checked the stepping on the Q6600, it is G0. I haven't done much checking into the stepping codes for this processor, so is that the good one? lol

From Tom's Hardware:

Santa Clara (CA) : Intel has informed its customers that the Core 2
Quad Q6600 desktop quad-core processor as well as the Xeon X3220 and
X3210 server quad-core CPUs have been transitioned to a new stepping,
which will allow customers to integrate the processors in computer
systems using lower power flexible motherboards (FMB).

According to a product change notification released on Friday, the
three processors were transitioned from the B-3 to the G-0 processor
stepping and can now run not only on 105 watt performance FMBs, but on
95 watt mainstream FMBs as well.

The new CPUs, which can be identified by the CPUID "06FB" (B-3
processors were labeled "06F7"), also increase the Tcase, a value that
describes the maximum temperature a CPU can sustain, by 11 degrees
Celsius. According to Intel, this change will allow system builders to
scale back cooling requirements and achieve lower system noise levels
overall.
