You're surprised?

I thought the whole liberal/"Blue State" approach to taxation is redistribution of wealth. The idea is that those who make more money ought to pay a higher percentage of their worth for projects to improve the quality of life of those who make less. And as much as people like to complain abou the tax cuts going to the most affluent earners in America, the fact is, it was tax cut across the board. That is, it was truly a tax cut. And just where were did those fund go, geographically speaking? What I'm getting at is: Given that huge companies will be housed in skyscrapers in the country's major cities and NOT in a barn in East Bumblefuck, Ohio, hence drawing significant portions of the GDP to those areas, it is absolutely no surprise that, say, for instance, the property taxes in LA and SF pay for the roads across pretty much all of the state of California. Or, on a national level, that the federal money deposited toward the improvement of education is going to where education is pretty lousy.

The way I see, neither of the groups for which the terms "Blue State" and "Red State" were coined have any right to complain about this. The "Red States" have obvious reasons to enjoy the trend (which is not new, btw) and the "Blue States" get to see progressive taxation at work and can sneer about how they're drawing all kinds of tax money from the eeeeevil corporations to spend on the common American workers.

That is correct. Its hard for me to make the argument both ways without coming off like a huge hypocrite.

The christian drum from the radical right is getting louder and making me any many others quite uneasy.

However, I can see one republican point: I would like to tell those who don't pay into the system to shut the hell up. I guess I understand the emotion, but as it turns out, republicans seem to occupy most of the welfare states. Ironic is it?

Of course they occupy most of the welfare states. They have nothing better to do than bitch and spy on their neighbours.

I heard some of them hold sacrifical rites on their overgrown lawns. Right next to the old, rusty, engineless chevy on cinderblocks.

The only thing to complain about Canada is hockey. That sport is horrible. But keep sending what you have left of rediculously hot women, those are more than welcome

Willy - I have an '87 Accord in my yard. Does that work? [It takes two old hondas to make one run]

well, as long as you've got 8 acquiescent cyliders, it'll do. But you might want to throw in a motorbike, as well, just to be safe.

Don't have one. Only reason I have that pos car is because my mom wanted me to fix it [she ripped 5th gear out of it then the camshaft broke too].

She since then got a new car and expects me to drive the other 87 I have. THANKS, right?

I have 3 cars now, myself. The nova, the duster, and f150.

The F150 is completely out of commission with a blown engine. It'll be the first project I tackle with the money I'll hopefully soon be making (figuring on about 2-3 grand for a crate motor. I'm planning to upgrade to a 5.4L from its current 4.6L. I don't mind spending the money because the truck was simply given to me.)

The Nova needs new rear brake lines and some adjustment to the cooling system. I'm going to switch over to a flex fan from the POS electric in there now, and build a shroud probably out of PVC sheets or something similar. And as long as I have it mothballed, I think I'll build a hand lever for the e-brake since the pedals that fit are built for the lower tension from drums.

And then the duster... still on the road, but with a damaged front suspension. Replaced the rack about 3 months ago after killing it against a curb and about a week later, I raced a yellow only to notice too late that there was a huge dip on the other side of the intersection. So now my strut tower is making all kinds of noise. I'm hoping it's just the shock but there might be deeper damage. I just hope it stays roadworthy for another 2-3 months. Once I get the truck back into service, it'll be time to fix the duster again.

Anyway, yeah, I hate cars.

Sorry for the digression. We now return you to the thread at hand.
