I'm reading UML Distilled and when Fowler is discussing use cases he says,
quote:
If you fear they may contain a "purple worm" investigate further.
I'm sure it's not related to bass fishing but I think it is somehow related to a D&D monster of the same name. My general feeling is that he means "something dangerous lurking", perhaps that's what a purple worm does?

You sure he didn't say a HUGE wormlike or snakelike appendage with a big purple head?

I played D&D a million years ago and don't really remember purple worms being a biggie on the monster list.
