I really want one of these

There's probably no way I'd be able to afford one before the end of summer, let alone before the end of basketball season.

I doubt it would help with your game anyway. It would probably just slow you down on the court.

hehe.

I suppose the basketball season comment was a bit of a non-sequitur.

Elucidation? My old St. Pete is getting all dinged and smashed. Still plays well, but it's kind of awkward to maneuver.

Man. . . I'd like to have that Tuba too Willy, but I'd need to learn to play it first. I'll just stick with my Tenor Sax. . . oh wait, I don't have that anymore. .

*gets all depressed and sits in the corner*

you wouldn't be able to learn to play it until you have it, though. And even then, it wouldn't take more than a few weeks. Tubas are pretty easy to learn. With the right warmups, you could be screaming all the way up to middle C within a few months. The hardest part of playing tuba, IMHO, is the need for a consistent internal rhythm. The physical mechanics come really naturally. The embechure is so loose, you could play it for hours on end and the fingerings are all based on harmonics, so you really only have to know the 7 basic combinations and maybe the 5 extra alternates a fourth valve allows.

Willy ~ I know how you feel. There's a very special tenor sax I've been coveting.

Selmer Model 84

I sold my Selmer alto for some money to get a sampler several years ago, but I've been aching to belt out some blues lately. I just wish good instruments didn't cost so much.

In response to "I wish I had money", I recently sold my car to some guy in New Hampshire. He had mentioned in conversation that he had a new hot tub. They couldn't afford one at the time so he went into business selling stuff on eBay until he did have enough. Cigars and things like that. He did it part time. So, who knows, maybe your wishes can come true?!??!

Miss you guys.

Tubas are pretty easy to learn

i've tried on multiple occasions, unsuccessfully, to play a trumpet. even with coaching, i can't make a sound with a brass instrument.

i think it's like that inborn thing where some people can't fold their tongue like a taco. or something.

Of all the brass instruments, I play the brass knuckles the best.

FS - I've heard of percussion instruments, but I think that one would have to be classified as a concussion instrument.

burb - that's exactly what I was talking about. I can barely get a sound out of a trumpet, and I have trouble getting out of the basic registers on a trombone. But on a tuba, the sound just comes easy, and I can play high enough that it starts to sound like a french horn. The frequency of buzzing in your lips is WAY lower on a tuba, and way easier to manage, IMO.
