anybody have an idea that my company can use to remotely back up the servers we have here - what we want is to have another server offsite at one of the other offices that will back up all of the information from our current servers. currently we have a few tape drives that backup the info but the pres. of the company wants something that will back up to an off site location (as well).

Well of course you must have offsite back-up in case of fire, theft, etc.

I simply offsite the last tape of the week and keep a month end tape at home as well but rotate those each week/month.

Since we do not use a service you are looking for I can't recommend one but I have seen them and can post a link if you need it.

how critical is the data? is it worthy of outsourcing? If so, make damn sure they are bonded. If it is not THAT important, you could easily do it through something as simple as pc anywhere and do it to you house or even have a sever at HIS house. It just depends how valuable the data is and how accountable you want whoever it is to be.

I guess it depends on how much data you are backing up too. Offsite tape storage seems as good a way as any.

Miss you guys.

I must admit it can be annoying carrying the tapes back and forth but that's why they pay me the big bucks. =)

we take the newest tape offsite every day and keep 2 weeks worth of tapes in the rotation. we have 4 servers on the network in the main office - the file server where all employees save info and the navision (server for the fiscal dept), our email server and a teminal services server. that last one isn't important so there would be no need to back that up. the other three are critical to the company's operation. we will soon be getting a 5th server that will also run a customized version of navision that will hold all consumer information (data sheets, emergency sheets, med information, etc...). the initial backup will be huge but from then on it would seem like we would only have to transmit files that have been changed to the remote server.

Don't you keep month/year end tapes as well or can you only go back two weeks?

I have one tape offsite for each year end.
Within the current year I have one tape offsite for every month end.

Why don't you setup a VPN between the two servers and then use a replicator program like Karen's replicator?
