The company ordered nextel phones. They will be here on Monday. How's the service? Anyone used the walkie talkie thing? I was curious as to how it worked if you were on the phone and someone was trying to talk to you or something. How is the call quality? Comparable to Sprint? Anyone use the Data service? We got charging usb cables that you can hook to the phone so you can surf the net on a laptop. I have that with sprint right now, but it doesnt charge the phone so the battery dies quick. Download speeds are about 10k. How does nextel do?

We're getting 5 phones for like $270/month. 1200 minutes each, unlimited direct connect, free nights/weekends, free long distance, web access, free car charger, case, belt clip, hands-free, and charging USB data cable.

I don't have one, but a lot of my friends do; the walkie-talkie thing is pretty cool, especially if you have an unlimited 2-way plan. As for service, well, it's the best you can get here in metro-detroit if that says anything.

Our corporation is ditching Nextel to go to Verizon. Mainly because of the reception quality.

I hate that direct connect feature so I rarely use it.

What is annoying are the people walking around in public using direct connect while their phone is in speaker phone mode. Not only do we get to hear their side of their lame ass conversation we get to hear the other side of the conversation blasting out the speaker. How gay is that?

In Michigan I find the best reception to be Verizon anyway. Nextel is average (quite a few dead spots) while Sprint is clearly the worst. Those are the only three I have personally tried.

Just because you hear someone's conversation, don't blame the service. Blame the lame ass user for not putting it in Private.

I've had Nextel service for the past two years in NYC. I do not have one complaint against them. Their CS, excellent. Phones, excellent. Features, hella excellent (I'm sorry, but you can never get this done as quick on a phone call as you can on Direct Connect). Don't get me wrong, of course Verizon's service is better than Nextel's. But Nextel's really isn't that lacking. From my experience, every dead spot I have with my Nextel, I had with my Verizon StarTac phone.

BTW: I hardly ever use DC on speakerphone (unless someone else HAS to hear the conversation). It's always on private. And vibrate (who needs loud ass ringtones, thats the only thing I can't stand with Nextel phones).

DC = Tremendously Useful, anyone who denies that is just jealous or a plain old newb. And no one does it like Nextel. Verzion's DC was a god damn joke. Sprint's isn't bad but it could still use improvement.

Haha @ Cac. My annoying roomate has a stupid 2-way phone and he does the exact same thing you are talking about. His Fiancee lives a floor below and he's always like

*SKUSHBEEP* "HONEY, WHAT ARE YOU DOING? *SKUSHBOOP*

*SKUSHBEEP* "HI, I AM READING A BOOK!!!*SKUSHBOOP*

Stupid things like that, I don't see why he doesn't walk his fat lazy ass down a flight of stairs to just see whats shes doing.

Also, they had sex in the room one day while I was out and when I came back it smelt like somone burned a pile of wet-trash.

I swear, I am going to stab him in his sleep. He also plays Dungeons and Dragons and does all sorts of other stupid shit. I'll take a picture of him and post it in here.

GFKiller - Re-read my post. I said that people that use DC on speaker phone was annoying not the DC feature itself.

When I use DC I have speaker phone off but either way I hate DC and would rather use it as a normal phone. I am not jealous since I have a Nextel and I am no newb since I have had Nextel for years now.

I simply hate the DC feature. With a normal call you can cut the person off when they are babbling about something you need not hear but with DC you have to wait until they release the button. I prefer to have more control over the conversation.

I understand that you have good reception where you live with Nextel, however in Michigan Nextel has too many dead spots or areas with poor reception so our corporation is switching to Verizon. I used to have Verizon years agon and it was the best for reception in the areas I travel for my job and for personal stuff.

I do agree with you GFK about using vibrate and only using speaker phone when in a meeting where more than one person needs to hear the call. Or I use speaker phone when driving (alone) sometimes.

Xan - Omg that guy sounds annoying as hell.

The DC thing is irritating from most all aspects. Like, cellphones in general are socially rude (in use) but DC just takes it to higher level.

I use Verizon because I travel nation-wide extensively. Verizon has the best overall coverage for that aspect.

You can interupt someone while they are talking on DC. If you hit the top Cancel Call button (the Square button on the top of the phone), it cuts the DC and then you can chirp back in.
