I'm really pastdue.

I bought the case, p/s, 8800GTS card, Raptor X 150 primary drive, other drives, monitor, etc.

I need the Ram, CPU and motherboard.

The more I read the harder it is to decide.

I don't want to wait for X38 and don't care about DDR3.

Can't decide between P35 and going single card only. Don't care about crossfire since I have a Nvidia card. My other thought is get a 680i board in case I want to go SLI later.

Looking at DFI boards mainly. Asus is a possibility too.

Iron Blood (P35)is nice and cheap. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813136038

The Lanparty P35 board is nicer but twice the price.

The 680i Lanparty board looks nice too if I want SLI.

Can't decide between a Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 1066MHz FSB for $270.00 or the Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz 1333MHz FSB for under $200.00

I think the Conroe would overclock better. I know some games will utilize the quad core eventually.

Anyone current with this stuff?

personally, i'd stick with the lanparty 680i incase you want to upgrade to sli later.

as for the cpu, i'd prefer teh core 2 duo > the quad

for one, you have a higher fsb
2, you have a higher clock.
3, 70 bucks cheaper.

i think by the time games will utitlize the quad core, you'll be thinkin about buying another 8800 by then and you can also upgrade ur cpu at the same time.

good luck

Grumpy thanks for the advice. I was thinking the same way but ended up going the P35 board with the Quad CPU.

I read quite a few great reviews on both at hardocp.com's forums.

I was able to build the box and buy a sweet monitor all for about $1,500 which is less than I expected to spend.

I'm going to dual boot with Vista Ultimate and XP Pro.

Here are the specs:

Antec P180 Computer Case (Silver) $89
WD Raptor X 150GB 10K SATA Hard Drive $175
OCZ GameXStream 700W Power Supply $109
ABIT IP35 Pro LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard $165
Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 2.40GHz 1066MHz G0 stepping $287
OCZ Platinum Revision 2 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 (dual) $56
EVGA 8800GTS 320MB Super-clocked (Free Quake Wars) $294
COOLER MASTER GeminII CPU+ Board Cooler Free
2 - ZALMAN ZM - F3 120mm Fans for GeminII $18
Vantec Round Cables (for floppy and IDE ROM) $8
MITSUMI Black 1.44MB 3.5" Internal USB 2.0 $18
SAMSUNG 226BW 22" 2 ms DVI LCD $280

Total Shipping $46

Total (All prices after rebates) $1,555

Additional components (free - don’t ask):

Windows Vista Ultimate 32
Windows XP Professional 32
WD 250 GB SATA Drive
Liteon 20X DVD Burner (Light scribe)
