I have a Lite-On DVD writer in my main PC and up until recently it read all disks. Now it's not so reliable. I have a backup PC upstairs with a much older DVD RW in it and it has no problem reading the same disks. I clean all my discs and I clean my player once in a while with an air duster. Any suggestions? I'll check Lite-On's page for a firmware update but I don't think that should be the cause.

Miss you guys.

That's weird. I've never had a Lite-On drive fail on me. What model is it?

I should qualify that then. I've never had a Lite-On DVDRW fail.

I'll check the model number when I get home. I'm thinking I might just pick up a new one since they're getting cheaper and cheaper. I don't want to replace it every year so hopefully this one will last a bit better. If I used my PC's DVD RW as my primary device for watching movies I would be screwed. Up until now it's been a loyal soldier.

I've had cables fail in the past. It's worth replacing the cable before purchasing a new drive.

And get an actualy DVD/CD lense cleaner. Using an air blaster distributes the dust, but it might just end up resettling on the lense anyways.

Thanks, guys.

It's a SHW-1635S. I have a ton of cables so I will try swapping out one of those.
