1) There are more reasons than oil for the war on Iraq. 2) There is the profit made off rebuilding Iraq and control of who gets the contracts
3) The war itself does many subtle things to benefit the current administration (regardless of if they knew this ahead of time or not) including:
a) Convincing many Americans that invading Iraq and capturing Saddam Hussein would make us safer here at home. Which is actually not true since we still have many security problems right here in the states. Why not spend that money on increased home security? I thought this administration was for that sort of thing? And don’t say we are spending money on increased home security because I know we are and I meant adding another 200 billion or whatever this war is costing us on top of what they already are spending. .
b) Keeping some of us focused on the war and not caring about the multitude of problems here at home like the economy, job market, huge deficit, etc. What about the economy? So Clinton handed over to Bush a real mess right? Is the surplus money that the democrats quote a lie? If so please explain this to me (seriously). Are there more better paying jobs these days or are the democrats lying again? Is government funded stem cell research using an effective method really that important to people that can’t afford to hire the world’s best specialist for their own disease. Being diabetic I find stem cell research more important to me than a war in Iraq. Shit I have a waaaaaay better chance of dying young from type 1 diabetes than from one of Saddam Hussein’s men attacking me. Anyway many people are too hung up on fighting terrorists to worry about the ‘other’ just as important things. That’s right ‘just as important’.
c) Many of us wanting to re-elect the current president even if he is not that great instead of bringing in a new person in the middle of a war. It may be a mistake to change presidents during war. But then again I’m probably the only person on the planet that thought of this so I’m positive that the republican administration has never looked at that as a plus in an election.
