Don't install SP2 if you're running XP with SP1 and using the WPA remover. It doesn't work with SP2, it needs a new version which I haven't found yet

Devil's own is not affected from my results of upgrading. I'll be doing 8 computers that were Devil's Own CD's (slipstreamed with SP1 of course). I'll post results as that is a pretty thorough test of this theory.

DevilsOwn isn't a cracked version, its just the corporate iso. What was "DevilsOwn" was the only key they included which got blacklisted because it was used by 90% of the people using the corp install.

Use the keychanger and the new keygen out (msg me if help is needed) and you'll have no problem.

As it turns out, I could uninstall SP2 and everything is restored back to pre-install, including the WPA status. Sweet ... that takes the urgency out of the matter, but I'd still like to have SP2 in place.

I have no idea what DevilsOwn is but SP2 works beautifully with all versions of XP, legit or not.

SP2 isn't that urgent of an update really - there are some neat things about it, but it's quirky to say the least. Of all the workstations to screw up at work, it screwed with mine. (I network installed it on all of the machines hooked up to our first server)

it is not urgent but it is rather significant.

BTW, I updated the network last night. Absolutely no problems bringing all of the illegal copies to SP2.

Word on the illegal copies of XP.

MS has decided that it's going to let even illegal copies update, except for the keys already blacklisted with SP1. Reason being, they know that if an illegal version isn't updated it's still a vector for viruses etc.

As it turns out, of the 2 computers I updated, one had the WPA problem, the other didn't. They're pretty similar, so it beats me.

Nate, are you 100% sure? I thought all illegal versions had to be brought to a 640 PID?

He is 100% correct. MS decided that whether it is a certified or stolen copy, it can be updated to SP2 (as long as it is now using one of the original Devil's own CD Keys, the ones banned from SP1 remain banned from SP2 -- but there are no additions from that.

Oh, I had read a statement from MS on neowin.net that said the previous(ly) released statement was wrong.

Oh well.

Why I like SP2 ---
