Going to turn off my DirecTV for 6 months (They'll put your account to "sleep" for that long without charging every month).

Decided that I wanted to check out what my HD Ready TV is capable of.

Best part is that the box serves as the HD tuner so I don't need to get a set top box to turn my HD Ready TV into a HD TV.

I'll post my impressions of the service when I see it.

Installation is on the 15th.

Good luck :d

1 thing you should know though, most Sattelite TV providers have already gone to HDTV. It may be that DirecTV offers it, and all you need is an upgraded reciever. It might be worth checking into if VOOM isn't satisfactory.

Damn, so is there that much of a wait to get the service started or are you just not impressed with it?

I heard voom loops a lot of content right now and it's kinda pricey to watch loops imo.

I've been using time warner's hd to watch ABC, Fox, CBS, NBC, PBS, discovery theater and HBO.

Thinking about getting a hdtv card for the htpc, just waiting to see how that new ati hdtv card is gonna perform.

HTPC?

And Hauppauge has a HD card (WinTV-HD) out right now and it's supposed to be good (if you don't like waiting).

Home theater computer. Can take a while to tweak properly, but you can do a lot with one like watch dvds in 1080i or play hi res ut2k4 on your widescreen while sitting on the sofa. Yea that hauppage has been out a while as have a few other brands, but the new ati is supposed to be real nice.
